Hydraulic coupling specifications can be confusing, especially when identifying thread types and determining the correct coupling size. Two of the most common questions that come up are:
To identify the thread type, measure the thread diameter and pitch, then compare those measurements to standard profiles like NPT, BSP, or metric threads.
Coupler size works differently. It’s based on the diameter of the mating surfaces and the coupling’s flow capacity, not the thread dimensions. A good starting point is to measure the outside diameter (OD) of the male thread or the inside diameter (ID) of the female thread. From there, match those measurements to standard coupling sizes to confirm the correct fit.
