Hydraulic coupling specifications can be confusing, especially when identifying thread types and determining the correct coupling size. Two of the most common questions that come up are:

  • How to identify a quick coupler thread type?
  • How to measure the size of a quick coupling?

To identify the thread type, measure the thread diameter and pitch, then compare those measurements to standard profiles like NPT, BSP, or metric threads.

Coupler size works differently. It’s based on the diameter of the mating surfaces and the coupling’s flow capacity, not the thread dimensions.  A good starting point is to measure the outside diameter (OD) of the male thread or the inside diameter (ID) of the female thread. From there, match those measurements to standard coupling sizes to confirm the correct fit.

For a visual demonstration of identifying common port threads and coupler sizes, see Stucchi’s video: Identifying Common Port Thread Types. View the Product Specifications with Tables below for a detailed overview of Common Port Types, including sizing information, and a searchable table of Hydraulic Coupler Sizes, which can be filtered by various parameters.
