SAE refers to the Society of Automotive Engineers with SAE Standard J516_201903 detailing the specifications for hydraulic hose fittings used in conjunction with hydraulic hoses specified in SAE J517 and utilized in hydraulic systems on mobile and stationary equipment.
SAE fittings typically utilize an O-ring for improved seal while the threads are used mainly for mechanical strength. We often hear the terms “SAE standard course” or “SAE standard fine” which refers to the threads per inch, the more threads per inch the finer the thread. The use of an O-ring helps to prevent issues with heating, cooling and vibration.
